How Well Can An Engineering Candidate Prepare For GAMSAT?

How Well Can An Engineering Candidate Prepare For GAMSAT?

I got amazed to listen to my friend. He said, “Only biomedical science or biology can support your GAMSAT preparation”. I could not agree with him rather I want to do a research. I heard that even engineering graduates shift their career to medicine through GAMSAT. I was curious to know how they felt about this test. I did a research on the forum and gleaned good information. I would like to share the same here.

The result is exciting. An overall survey says, Most of the best medical students are good engineers.

I would like to be more specific how the candidates felt about this standardized test. I have collected few responses from the engineering candidates who have gone through the GAMSAT.

GAMSAT has three unique sections that test your intellectual property. It needs only the basic subject knowledge.

Now, I would like show the information based on each section.

Humanities and Social science – Section 1:

Engineering helps a lot in Section 1 and 3 mainly with the problem solving questions. Section 1 has questions related to humanities and social science. This section contains many general knowledge questions. Also it contains questions that test your reasoning and analyzing ability.

The problem solving and analytical skills from engineering were generally useful for the section I. Speed reading was also a great advantage for this section . Engineers are habituated to speed readers already. They don’t need to find difficulties in reading page long passages.

Essay writing – section 2?

Section 2 was not an exception for engineering graduates.

One of the candidates says, “I thought I was a goner for SII, as I wrote the essays as I would a practical report. It appears that the graders liked it, and I got a 68.”

Engineering supports your GAMSAT preparation with all sections.

Science – Section 3:

I have gone through many conversations between engineers who felt GAMSAT easy. I would like to list out the answers below: It shows how their graduation helped them to perform well in the GAMSAT.

Hi, I’m the 3rd engineer to have posted here. I did my degree in Civil Engineering, and in high school, I didn’t do biology at all.”

The physics questions on velocity, acceleration, and magnetic fields, etc, were easy for me, without having to spend too much time on it. And most engineering degrees require a certain level of organic / inorganic chemistry. I found that high school chemistry was enough to get me through section 3 with a 61.
I must agree that engineering hones your mind to think very critically, and to be pragmatic on top of all that. So once you’re done with the GAMSATs and facing the interview. All these traits will see you in good stead for the interview as well.”

Another candidate’s GAMSAT experience says, “Looking at test performance on a macro-level, I found that I had the ability to work through the problems efficiently and accurately, which in my case is directly a result of how engineering was taught to me.

These are all the opinions of Engineers who have done the GAMSAT. Hence, engineering supports the GAMSAT preparation and writing the test. I would like to share the disclaimer as well. Engineering is the toughest subject and there are so many subjects to study. It is important to have a good GPA in order to enter the popular med schools. Put more efforts and maintain a decent GPA. I would like to share this tips on GAMSAT practice tests. It shall help you to work out the practice tests. Hard work never fails!
