Summer Night Fashion

Dressing for nights in the summer isn’t always easy: while it can be hot in the noonday sun, as you get into evening the temperature can drop, and the outfit that was perfect only a few hours ago leaves you shivering. You want to look cool, not cold, so you need to plan ahead.

Today we’re taking a look at how you can construct an outfit that’ll take you from the heat of the summer day into the long evening of a party, and not have you compromising your look for the weather!

The Emergency Kit

The most important thing you can do is make sure you have an emergency kit you can quickly make use of if the temperature suddenly drops to ensure you’re staying warm. If you’ve got an office job, then keeping a few key items it work, in a draw, locker or simply hung in your office can be a lifesaver if you’ve got plans after work and the weather simply isn’t cooperating. It’s worth keeping a change of shoes, and a spare jacket in the office at the minimum, along with a ‘basics’ make up set that lets you touch up at short notice.

If you don’t have access to the office, and are heading out for a long day, then you might need to downscale your emergency kit. Cashmere sweaters are a great thing to invest in for this eventuality. They’re light but warm, and because cashmere is an elite material it attracts the best of designers.

A cashmere sweater or cardigan can be kept in your car, checked into a cloakroom or even folded carefully (to preserve the lines of the garment) and slipped into a handbag. If the evening grows chilly, you have a number of options, from putting it on immediately, to wearing it draped casually across your shoulders to help you feel comfortable in the chill of the night air.

Layers

One of the best things you can do is ensure you’re constructing an outfit out of layers you can don and shed at your convenience to ensure you’ve got the right mix for the weather you’re facing.

A sun dress is a great foundation for an outfit like this. Alone, it’s perfect for an afternoon in the sun, but early in the morning and after sundown, you can add and shed extra like a cardigan or leggings. If you plan ahead, and make sure you’re considering the outfit as a whole, you’ll still be making a great statement as the evening draws to a close!
