Obsolete And Ineffective Linkbuilding Techniques

Google has been around for more than a decade and its powerful algorithm is continuously updated. As a result, many previously effective linkbuilding tactics have been rendered ineffective. As a result, many website owners find their website rankings plunge in terms of search rankings. Their somewhat spammy techniques have cost them immense traffic and profitability:

Here are common obsolete linkbuilding techniques that we should avoid:

1. Forum Signatures

Forums signatures were once a favourite linkbuilding method, but it could help us create many links very quickly, by simply opening thread, creating posts and replying to others. Today, major search engines have been able to detect links originated from forum signatures.

2. Spammy Blog comments

This happens if post links to our website with unrelated accompanying text. We could use the same kind of text over and over again in many blogs. In fact, search engines could find out if the majority of our inbound links come from blog comments with similar patterns.

3. Guestbook Linking

This is a clearly outdated linkbuilding method to the extent that we could no longer find guestbooks in newer websites. Search engines could also find out if we regularly post links in guestbooks, especially if we find them in many older, unmodified websites.

4. Inbound Links from Zero PR Pages

It is true that gaining links from zero PR pages are very easy and probably it looks natural if we gather many of them. However, Google could use this as an acid test to gauge the quality of our website. If we lack links even from a PR 1 pages, this could indicate the poor quality of our website.

5. Too many Links from a similar C class IP Address

This could easily indicate link spamming, because our inbound links come from the same network. In general, search engines could negate all of our links, if we get most of them from a similar network with the same C class IP address. This could suggest websites hosted by the same hosting company or placed in a similar web server.

6. Links from websites with unrelated Iopics

This could easily indicate a link manipulation scheme, because it is unnatural to get so many links from websites with unrelated topics. Whether it is manual or automated, links from unrelated websites should be considered of having lower quality. We should get relevant links or we will find ourselves in a big trouble.

7. Link Farms

This method is not only outdated and also very dangerous. Getting links from link farms could cause penalization. In some cases, it is possible for our websites to get removed completely from the listing.

8. Interlinking our Websites

This is a useless techniques, especially if search engines know that these websites are owned by single company or individual based on the WHOIS information.

9. Paid Links

Paid links are illegal if pay only to get links posted to others’ websites without offering real value to readers. Alternatively, we could purchase placements in unique reviews that look like genuine article.

10. Automated Link exchanges

It is a relatively dangerous method, because search engines could determine specific patterns used to generate link exchanges.
