In Alfred New York, the perfect equestrian summer camp awaits the young lover of horses and riding. Alfred University Equestrian Summer Camp offers the young rider the opportunity to spend down time in an environment that encompasses the passion of riding.

Located at 1 Saxon Drive in Alfred New York, Alfred University Equestrian Summer Camp is designed for young riders between the ages of 10 to 16 years. The camp is for all levels of riders and classes will be organized accordingly. Anyone interested in riding is welcomed to attend. Space is limited and camp sessions are kept to a maximum of 30 students. Since the program has no prerequisites, it is important to keep class sizes small to ensure safety, and maximization of time and instruction.

Camps sessions will be held at the new Daggett Equestrian Center. Campers will actually stay in dormitories at the University with all meals being served in the dining hall. Campers are responsible for their own transportation and other incidentals. The basic fee for the Alfred University Equestrian Summer Camp tuition is $750.00 per camper, which includes most meals (extra meals are an exception), tuition, room and board, materials, activities, and the use of a horse or the boarding of the camper’s personal horse, whichever is preferred. Campers arrive on Sunday and leave on Thursdays. Upon arrival there will be ice-breaker games so that campers can get acquainted. There will be other social gatherings for campers throughout the duration of the camp session. Campers are supervised by Resident Assistants when they are not in classes.

Young Western riders will arrive at camp and meet with their instructors clarifying their goals for the summer. The structured curriculum includes the basics of western horsemanship position. Riders are given the option to select a focus of western pleaser or a speed option. During their stay at camp rider will compete with their peers in speed events, trail, or western pleasure. Speed events include barrel racing and bole bending.

The curriculum addresses eventing, dressage, hunt seat equitation, flat work, and riding over fences. Upon arrival at camp English riders clarify their desired goals for camp. By instructors knowing exactly what riders are interested in accomplishing, the focus of the camp can be directed to assisting the students achieve their goals.
