Local band The Lives of Famous Men makes it big with mtvU contest victory

They sat by the phone, waiting for the good or bad news for three hours.
The Lives of Famous Men--a band comprised of two Portland State students and others from the area--had just played for about 5,000 people in an outdoor amphitheater in Philadelphia, Pa., for the finals of the mtvU Campus Invasion Tour Contest. It was May 3, they and two other bands were competing for the top prize--$10,000 and the opportunity to host the mtvU program, Dean's List. After the show, fans began voting for their favorite.
The band was told to wait by the phone for word.

Last Saturday, hundreds packed the main gym of the Peter W. Stott Center to participate in and watch traditional dances, sample a variety of foods and learn about many cultures at the annual Pacific Islanders Club luau.
The sixth-annual luau consisted of a traditional Hawaiian dinner, a raffle, local vendors selling products made from the Pacific Islands and a showcase of dances from the islands, which was the main entertainment of the evening.

Portland State employed the first large-scale usage of the new PSU Alert system on May 6 after an unknown individual warned that a bomb would detonate at noon in the Branford P. Millar Library. The library closed, but at noon, nothing happened. Those working on the first implementation of PSU Alert said the empty threat provided for a convenient test of the system, and the experience will now be used to help make improvements.

She thought all the requirements had been met and her degree was completed. So, PSU student Molly Stack moved to Ireland, ready to launch a career in multimedia.
After moving thousands of miles away from Portland, Stack was informed that she had not fulfilled all of her requirements. Because the classes she needed would not be offered online, a return to the states would be necessary if Stack wanted to graduate.
